I was first introduced to the concept of self love about twenty five years ago and to be honest I thought it was a bit self indulgent.
Over the years I have been put in my place several times especially when I was not practicing it. If we don’t love ourselves and treat ourselves with appreciation and self care how can we say we love others? It is so important to be truly in our best possible state for ourselves before we can be in a good state for others.
Today I am going to share with you a little exercise that I have used in the past, a really beneficial exercise to start you on your self love journey. I go into detail and talk you through it on the video.
The gist of the exercise is to think or imagine somebody that you know loves you, past or present, young or old.
Close your eyes and imagine that person is standing in front of you. Now imagine you are walking our of your own body and walking into or stepping into that person.
Take your time and feel it like you are fitting them on like a coat.
Next look out through their eyes, see what they are seeing and hear what they are hearing and get a real sense of how they feel about you.
Next start listing the things that they love about you and write them down.
When you are finished exhausting that list step out of them again and step back into you.
This exercise can have a profound effect on how you feel about yourself. It is great to get another perspective on what others see in you and what they love most about you.
Please don’t just read this and not do the exercise. I know from my own experience, once I started to embrace the concept of self love my life truly started to change for the better. I enjoy much more peace of mind, less guilt, more fun, and more joy.
You owe it to yourself to do the exercise and embrace self love.
