“I have finally found a group of like-minded people to share my spiritual journey with and I no longer feel alone”
Aileen Hogan, Positive Recombobber.
Over the last couple of months, I have received hundreds of comments and private messages just like this.
And no matter how many I get, each time I read one, my heart swells with happiness, gratitude and joy.
If you are one of the 400+ people that have been joining me every day for our free morning meditation then you’ll know what I’m talking about. And if you haven’t yet experienced it, I would love for you, your family and friends to join us, especially as we move into a 21 day cycle which will complete a 100 days in a row that has taken my meditative practice – and that of countless others- to another level.
As I look towards the culmination of this 100 day journey, I’m drawn to reflect on how it all began…
Those strange days back in March when our world suddenly ground to a halt and everywhere, people were afraid, confused and so very stressed.
To be really honest, I don’t know consciously how it happened, I was just led. All I can remember is thinking ‘The world is in crisis, what can I do to help?
As the founder of QTT and a former nurse, I’m well used to having to respond quickly in traumatic situations and crises. So even though there was plenty of confusion, I knew two things with complete clarity:
I’m not the person who will snap into action by collecting prescriptions or doing shopping for other people.
I can absolutely support people by offering them the help they need to manage themselves emotionally.
Certainly I could have given people the gift of meditation in a number of ways, and indeed for anyone who needed that, a complimentary copy of The 7 Day Positivity Project was (and is) always available.
But my inner voice told me that I needed to stand up, step forward and offer people a steady hand and lead them through a process of healing and transformation. This is very important because unless people are led, too often, they won’t do it themselves.
I felt then, as I do now, that we needed to go big.
In the extraordinary times we are being faced with, now more than ever – we need to come together and find a place of strength, self-awareness and courage.
We also need a safe place of comfort, a bed of feathers to fall back into when we need a rest.
I wanted to create a space for both. A community for people to share their bravery and somewhere to nestle together, finding support when they needed it.
A space to huddle up.
Just like penguins do, we would gather in a circle, taking turns to bring the people who needed our help into the centre to support and nurture them. Generating the energy to keep our hearts open and our minds alert for challenging times when we need it the most.
I had no idea when I started, the dramatic and life-altering affect this huddle would bring about. It has affected me in ways that I will share with you soon – I have BIG plans and when I am ready to share those, you’ll be the first to know!
Just a few comments from new Huddlers in the group to give you a flavour:
In admiration I want to acknowledge just some of the ripples that have been spread by this group:
There is Camaraderie. A true community. Our penguins show up in their hundreds for the morning lives or replays, sharing their wisdom, knowledge and support to encourage and inspire each other.
There is Hope. Unwavering, heart-opening faith that as long as we can stick together and share our experiences, we can make the world a better place.
There is Joy. Another thing, and in my eyes just so important for wellbeing is the craic and banter we experience in the group. There is joy in laughter and joking, and so often I have wept with laughter at the poems and jokes and funny memes that the beautiful souls in the group compose and share.
There is Expansion. Incredible space and place for heart opening, expansion. By the very nature of that, we don’t know what view we are going to see – poems, stories and new perspectives.
“Once you choose hope, anything’s possible”
Many of you will know about the work I do supporting The Hope Foundation, a registered charity working with street and slum children in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India
Well, on one of the morning meditations, I shared a story that Breda McDonald had told me about a cyclone that had literally destroyed the area. That was the 22 May and today, as I write this on the 30 May, the Positive Recombobbers have raised over €7,000, and counting, in support of Hope!!
If this is not an example of the power of community, of our capacity to reach out and make a difference then I don’t know what is. If any of you would still like to donate to Hope you are welcome to do that by Clicking Here
“We’re all just walking each other home”
My primary goal when I started the 100 day meditation project, was to offer practical and immediate support for the thousands of people in my community who needed it. This has happened and indeed the community has grown.
The Positive Recombobbers group has grown from 4000 people to 6000+++ people. We have approx 250 people meditating Live together every morning with that number growing to 400 as people catch the replays throughout the day.
The impact of this on a global level really excites me. Research shows that it only takes the square root of 1% of a given population meditating collectively to have a marked impact on crime rates, accidents and how people interact. So with our 400 meditators daily we have the capacity to impact 16,000,000 people.
It has been brilliant to watch the impact of so many people taking part in the 100 day meditation cycle, reducing fear, relaxing overwhelm, having lightbulb moments, feeling lighter, not being so reactive in situations or towards others, reducing emotions that were uncomfortable.
As well as that, watching the interactive posts in the group and people sharing their knowledge, resources, sense of humour and support for each other. All of this coupled with sharing their inspiring feedback on the positive impact the group is having on them just proves to me the power and importance of a safe community in enhancing positive wellbeing.
I Wonder What’s Next?
I drew a circle of 100 days around our mediation so that I could create a container and channel my energy. I had no idea of the massive impact that this group would have and I’m excited to see what can happen next. Our numbers are growing which means our impact and power is rising – at an individual and a group level.
Now that we are entering the final 21 days of the 100 day mediation cycle I would like to invite you (if you haven’t been joining us already) to:
